Pitch a sourced field note. We edit. We do not auto-publish. We will not run invented specs, fees, or closures under your name or ours.

Reviewed 17 October 2026

Verify before you travel. Permits, closures, tides, fire bans and track conditions change. Confirm with the parks agency, the state transport site, and the Bureau of Meteorology. This desk does not publish live availability, prices, or invented events.

Guest posts are welcome. Folklore is not. 4x4 News is built for posting — including other people’s field notes — but the sourcing standard does not relax because the byline changed.

We want: a place you actually travelled, the agency pages that governed it, what the visiting-safely notes said, and what you observed without turning observation into a fake official closure. We do not want: tyre-pressure gospel presented as law, copied tow tables, ferry fares, or a paragraph that begins “the locals told us it’s always open in May”.

Pitch shape

Use the contact form with topic “Guest post outline”. Include:

  1. Working title and the URL room you think it belongs in (/guides/, /blog/, /news/).
  2. The official URLs (parks, BOM, roads, Traditional Owner pass).
  3. Dates you travelled, without inflating them into a “current conditions” claim.
  4. Conflicts: are you paid by a tour operator, a manufacturer, a park concession?

House style for what a good note looks like sits in what we publish. The longer briefing essay is on the blog.

Overnight this path already existed as /guest-post/. It stays. /guest-posts/ 301s here.

We will edit for accuracy, Australian spelling, and the no-invented-numbers rule. We will reject pieces that need a disclaimer on every line. That is not hostility. That is how a 4WD domain stays quotable.

What good looks like

A publishable note names the park, the permit you held, a dated observation, and the official URL for the next reader. House style: what we publish. Field capture: field-note checklist. Method: how to brief.

We will not invent a guest author for atmosphere. When a guest piece runs, it will carry a real name or it will stay a house checklist like the two notes already in this collection.

What we will not run

Product round-ups with prices. Tow tables. “Ten recovery kits ranked.” Live closures. Anything that treats a Traditional Owner visitor pass as optional colour. Anything copied from a manufacturer PDF with the logo filed off.

If you work for a tour company, say so. We may still run a tightly sourced explainer; we will not run a brochure.

Overnight this path was a stub that said “email a short outline”. That remains the idea. The form is on contact. The standard is higher than the stub.

Questions the desk answers first

How do I pitch a guest post?+

Send an outline via the contact form with the destination, the official pages you will cite, and a list of claims you will not make. Do not send a finished 3,000-word piece stuffed with fees.

Do guest posts auto-publish?+

No. Everything goes through editorial review in Keystatic.

Official sources

Fees, opening hours and closures belong on the issuing site. We cite the page; we do not copy a price list.

4x4 News is built for posting: news notes, track guides, blog essays and guest copy. We will not invent a headline to fill the gap. If you have a sourced field note, send the outline.
