A publishable guest note on this desk looks like a person who went somewhere, plus the pages that governed it. It does not look like a manufacturer brochure. It does not look like a Facebook recap with a fee table. It does not invent a ranger called Dave.
Shape
- Place and manager in the first screen — K’gari under Queensland Parks, the SA Simpson park under the Desert Parks Pass, Mitchell River under Uunguu, Arthur-Pieman under Parks Tasmania’s driver pass.
- Instrument you actually held (VAP, Desert Parks Pass, driver pass, Uunguu), without quoting the price.
- Observation, dated, of signs and conditions you saw — framed as observation.
- Official URLs for anyone who will go next month, when your observation is stale.
- Safety that restates visiting-safely language rather than inventing a psi.
That order is the same order staff guides use. Guests are not a lower shelf. They are extra hands on the same standard.
We will cut
Rankings. Tow charts. Ferry fares. “Always open from May.” Affiliate shopping lists. Other people’s uncredited paragraphs. Anything that claims to be a live alert. Anything that treats a Traditional Owner visitor pass as optional colour. Anything that quotes a forum fee as if it were the booking site.
We will keep
The boring sentence that a gate was signed closed. The useful sentence that a council ferry page is not a parks permit. The adult sentence that you took the bypass because QPWS said there is no crossing at the camping area. The sentence that names BOM as the weather product and the bulletin as the operations product. The sentence that admits you did not hold a copy of the alert and therefore cannot narrate it.
House mechanics
Australian spelling. Metric. Parks names as the agency uses them, with the old English name once so search still works. No imperial psi gospel presented as law. No ranking. No fee table. Conflicts of interest in the pitch, not buried after publication.
We will not invent a guest called “Dave from Dubbo” to make the collection look busy. The two notes in this collection are house style, labelled as such. When a real guest piece ships, it will have a real byline or it will not ship. That is how a posting desk stays distinguishable from a content farm.
Pitch via contact. Read guidelines. Capture kit: field-note checklist. If you want a staff-written destination piece instead, those already live under guides. If that sounds strict, the news-desk method explains why the domain cannot afford another lie.
Questions the desk answers first
Will you run a guest piece with made-up sources?+
No. Official URLs or it does not ship.
Official sources
Fees, opening hours and closures belong on the issuing site. We cite the page; we do not copy a price list.

4x4 News is built for posting: news notes, track guides, blog essays and guest copy. We will not invent a headline to fill the gap. If you have a sourced field note, send the outline.
